This past Monday, our class went to The Imperial War Museum for class. We are reading the book "Atonement" by Ian McEwan, so the museum was pretty relevant as it's talked about and there is a ton of memorabilia and historic artifacts from WWII located there.
On our walk there, we passed this GORGEOUS tree in full bloom!
The museum entrance; notice the huge guns in the front; they were in use during the war and taken off of a ship.
These are the bullets that are for the guns!
It reminded me a lot of The National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C., but on a smaller scale. We went through both a trench and blitz experiences which were both pretty neat.
An "Ole'Bill" London bus, used for troop transport during WWI.
WWII German one-man Biber submarine.
King George VI's handwritten speech, coat, and photo of his famous WWII wartime speech to the people of the United Kingdom-the same as seen in the film "The King's Speech".
It was amazing to see that for about two years, no one ever knew if there was going to be a blitz. Children were to bring luggage to school and people slept in cages that were used for dining room tables during the day in case their house collapsed!
Some Hussein TP!
WWII Advertisements.
A Secret Intelligence James Bond exhibition!
There was also a Holocaust Exhibit. No pictures were allowed, but it was absolutely overwhelming! I was in shock of everything that was included. Pictures, journals, a whole pile of shoes that were recovered from the incinerators; it was extremely emotional and moving. I'm leaving for Paris tonight with my roommate Libbie and her boyfriend Jimmy. We're taking a bus to Dover on the coast and then taking a ferry to France and driving on a coach the rest of the way to Paris! We'll be there for about a day and half. It should be a blast; the Louvre, The Eiffel Tower, and Notre Dame among tons of other things-plus it's supposed to be about 75F! Today I went shopping with Libbie this morning and got some adorable tangerine colored cigarette pants. I also cleaned the refrigerator out because it smelt like something died and no one else would do it! Hope everyone is doing great; I'll see all of you in about a month!
The sub is definitly not a german "biber" !
ReplyDeletelooks more like an italian "maiale"...
Cheers
